Why Koren Publishers is better than Artscroll.

Since Artscroll was founded in 1976, the publication society has become the go to English language Judaic company for Orthodox jews. In 2009 though a newcomer came for English speaking Jews with the introduction of the Koren Sacks Siddur. Artscroll does not have prayers for the State of Israel and tells you what the law is and what you must do. It acts as your possek. many people were not comftorable with that as they want to be informed of what most people must do but not told what they have to do. Also Koren Publishers is more supportive of womens rights when halachically possible, as for example when it talks about the Grace After Meals it says if three women ate together they may say zimmun but should substitute "chavrotai" for "Rabbotai" All of these changes have made more people comftorable with the Koren Siddur and though only 4 years old Koren Publishers has become the go to publication society for English Speaking, Modern Orthodox, Relegious Zionist Jews.

USMNT Wins Gold Cup

The United States beat Panama 1-0 on a goal by brek Shea in the 69th minute to win the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. This win means that they will be playing in a playoff against the winner of the 2015 gold cup to determine the CONCACAF berth for the 2017 FIFA confederations Cup. 

USMNT

With the us winning today against Honduras 3-1 they advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup finals on Sunday. This win gives the US a ten game win streak which is a record for the USMNT.

Today in Israel the worlds third largest multi sport event started so expect a daily recap of what happened. 

2013 women's lacrosse World Cup

In today's round of 12 matchup Israel beat New Zealand 12-9 to advance to tomorrow's quarterfinal. Against host Canada. Congrats to the new country. 

All star game

The American League has won the all star game 3-0. This is the first time ever that two consecutive all star games have ended in a shutout with the AL therefore getting home field advantage in the World Series. Kipnis ended the game. 

Israel at the 2913 summer universiade

Today Israel won two medals in sambo a gold by Alice Schlesinger and a silver. The gold by Schlesinger gives her two medals for the event. One in belt wrestling and one in sambo. This gives Israel 4 medals overall. 

Indians win

Indians win 4-2 over the blue jays in the career debut of Danny Salazar who threw six innings and gave up one run. Salazar gets the win and Perez the save.

The Indians shut out the blue jays 3-0 with Jimenez getting the win and Perez the save. 

Wimbledon history

For the first time since 1936 there is a British winner of the gentlemen's singles at wimbledon as Andy murray beat Novak djokovic in a grueling thriller 6-4 7-5 6-4. Murray will probably be knighted and congrats to him.  Who knows maybe the cubs will win a World Series next year. 

MLB all-star game

Jason kipnis and Justin masterson are both all stars as are Andrew mcCutchen, Locke,grilling, and Alvarez as well. There is a final vote that rookie phenom yasiel puig is in.

On July 3rd 1947 the Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of Larry Doby from the Newark eagles of the negro leagues.

No hitter

Congratulations to homer bailey of the Cincinnati reds for on pitching his second career no-hitter tonight in a 3-0 win over the giants. This is the first no-hitter of the year and the first since Homer Bailey pitched one last year on September 28th.  This was the 280th in MLB history. 

Israelis in the NBA

On Sunday the Dallas Mavericks signed Israeli point guard Gal Mekel to a three year deal becoming the second Israeli to ever have a contract with an NBA team after omri casspi. 

Is this a sign of improvement in Israeli basketball. 

July 2 in sports history

1994-Colombian national football team player andres Escobar is shot and killedin Columbia 10 days after scoring an own goal in group play in a game against the United States that eliminated them from the tournament.

Four the fourth year in a row Sabine lisicki of Germany has beat the reigning French open champion after beating Serena Williams today in the fourth round 

Fun fact of the day

When the Philadelphia phillies lost their 10000th game and became the first American franchise to lose that amount of games Ryan Howard struck out and the phillies crowd celebrated that accomplishment. In Cleveland they would have booed. 

July 1 NCAA Changes

Today is July 1st which means that the NCAA fiscal year is starting which means that all changes to conferences happen such as Pittsburgh and Syracuse are now in the ACC and the big east split into two with the Big east being non football and the American Athletic Conference which will include football. 

NHL draft

In the 7th round of the draft the New Jersey devils drafted Anthony brodeur the son of their goal Martin brodeur who is still on the team and brodeur got to announce it. What a moment that must have been for him. 

Confederations Cup wrap up

Brazil wins the 2013 confederations cup by beating Spain 3-0 in the final. 

Italy beat Uruguay 2-2 (3-2) for third. 

Fernando Torres and Fred tied for the tournament lead with 5 goals

The golden ball for player of the tournament goes to Neymar.

The Cleveland Indians beat the white sox 4-0 on a complete game shutout by Justin masterson. His third of the year. It completes a 4 game sweep of the white sox and the Indians are now tied for first in the al central.

Confederations cup third place

Italy wins third place 2-2 with 3-2 in penalties with 3 saves by Buffon in penalty kicks

Rugby World Cup sevens

This weekend in Russia was the 2013 rugby World Cup sevens

In the men's side New Zealand beat England 33-0 in the cup final and Fiji beat Kenya 29-5 for 3rd 

Canada beat Samoa 19-12 for 9th and Russia beat Japan 29-5 for 17th 

On the women's side new Zealand beat Canada 29-12 for the cup and the United States beat Spain 10-5 in extra time for 3rd. Australia beat England 14-5 for fifth and Fiji beat the Netherlands 12-10 for 9th. That is the wrap on the rugby World Cup sevens.
